Program Specific Information
The information below is intended to be used as a guideline to assist parents with planning for the spring season. It is not definitive, and details may change based on several factors.
Programs are available for students in kindergarten through 6th grade. HPS participates in the SAY East Soccer League in both the Fall and Spring. The Spring season typically runs from March through May, with games being played on Saturday and/or Sunday. For all divisions other than Lollipops, you should expect two practices per week. We attempted to reserve field time on Monday and Wednesday evenings, but ultimately the decision is left to the volunteer coaching staff.
Our Lollipop program (kindergarteners) typically practices once per week with no official games.
If interest and participation is there, we will participate in the Cincinnati Youth Volleyball League (CPYVL). The league recently changed their divisional breakdowns and now includes a 3rd/4th combined rec division, a 5th-grade rec division and a 6th-grade rec division. It appears these divisions will be girls only this season. Depending on our numbers, we may choose to combine 5th and 6th in which case we will be required to enter the 6th-grade division. Participants should expect one or two practices per week and at least one or two games over the weekend (Friday - Sunday). Games begin the weekend of April 8th and end the weekend of May 15th, with a tournament the following weekend. Like soccer, our goal is to schedule practices on specific nights; Tuesday and Thursday allow kids to play both soccer and volleyball in some cases. While we do not deter people from playing multiple sports, we do expect a general commitment to the program and team when you register. Please consider this in your decision process. And again, the ultimate practice day and time depends on gym availability and coaches preference.
There is a boys only division for 5th and 6th grade, and we will open registration in an attempt to field a team. Please note, we will only field a team if interest is there AND we have appropriate coaching staff. If you register for boys volleyball and we end up not having a team, you will be refunded.
Baseball / Softball
Our baseball program continues to grow and evolve. For baseball, we participate in Knothole Baseball, a league that has been around Cincinnati for many years. Programs are available for students in kindergarten and up but based on years past we have had a struggle fielding a full 5th and 6th grade team. The older age group will likely be a combined 4th/5th grade team. Baseball is a co-ed sport through 2nd grade, at which point our 3rd grade girls switch to softball. This year we expect to have at least two softball teams, but final decisions will be base don number of registrants.
If we do not field a team in your child’s age group,, we are more then happy to assist in finding you a team to play on (assuming Hyde Park does not field an older team). Either way, please be patience as we work to organize divisions by age and experience.
Running Club is intended to offer students yet another option to stay active, build a work ethic and promote school spirit and teamwork. While we do not “compete” in an organized league, the volunteer coaches will work with students to teach proper running techniques, running safety, the importance of regular exercise and will work towards running in an organized race.
The Club is open to students in kindergarten through 6th grade. We typically segment groups by grade, with K – 2 practicing one or two times per week and 3 – 6 practicing separately, also one to two times per week.
Flag football is a new option that started last year! We will participate in Flag Football Fanatics in the Sunday league in Kenwood/Blue Ash. Games are normally in the late afternoon, with a practice immediately preceding the game. Expect one additional practice during the week as well. Our goal is to open registration for 2nd – 6th grade, coed. Assuming we have enough interest (7-10 players) we will field a team at each grade level. If there are not enough players in any one grade, we will consider combining grades in which case we would be required to play in the higher of the two divisions. The registration fee includes your uniform (shorts, jersey and socks), flags, and mouthpiece. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly. I will run registration through Sports Engine, organize all teams internally, and will then submit to the league as a team. You are not required to register with Flag Football Fanatics independently. We are also in need of coaches. Remember, we cannot have a team unless we have coaches.
Hyde Park partners with our friend at Walnut to offer lacrosse. This registration is help independently from HPS, but we are here to answer any questions you might have. Please visit Girls Lacrosse | Eagles Youth Lacrosse for more info.
